I’m Meagan and I love therapists

In 2022, I left the corporate world and never looked back. I took a year sabbatical to reset and rethink my relationship to work and the concept of “career”. Over the past year, I’ve taken my seven years’ experience working in various administrative roles, including as an executive administrative assistant to C-level executives and as a corporate and commercial real estate paralegal, and poured it into my best friend’s group psychotherapy practice—and discovered that I love the work.

In a corporate context and scale, support roles can feel hollow and meaningless—at times even dehumanizing. It is difficult to connect with a sense of purpose in a job that primarily exists to increase the wealth of a few already-wealthy individuals. What I’ve found since is that in solo private practice or small-group mental healthcare companies owned and staffed by aligned individuals, those same duties take on meaning. It feels good to know the work I’m doing is in furtherance of clients receiving quality care from a provider who is not pushed to their limit with the demands of running their practice. And as a therapy client myself, I love giving back to therapists by helping them create space in their schedules to slow down and tend to themselves.

If you are looking for or considering hiring support in running your practice or tackling a specific project, I would love to hear from you!

Policies

When you work with me on an ongoing basis, services are rendered on a month-to-month contract and can be terminated at any point. At the end of every month, you will be invoiced for the subsequent month. Services will not be provided for that subsequent month unless and until the invoice is paid in full. If partial payment is made, work will be rendered pro rata commensurate to the amount received. For special projects, payment is also due upfront.

Payment

To avoid losing income to payment processing fees, I currently only accept payment through Cash App, Venmo, and Zelle. If you need to use a credit card, please let me know and we will figure something out.

Termination of services

If you wish to discontinue service with me, simply let me know before your payment for the next month’s services are due. I do not refund prorated fees if you decide to terminate mid-month.

Employment status

For most of my clients, I perform work as an independent contractor (sometimes referred to as a “1099 employee”). If you would prefer to hire me as a part-time remote employee, you may; but it’s not necessary if you don’t want to be responsible for payroll taxes, workers compensation insurance, Unemployment contributions, benefits, etc.

HIPAA compliance

I last completed HIPAA training in 2025. In addition to general HIPAA education, my trainings covered the Omnibus Rule, HITECH, California CMIA, and Texas HB 30.

Under HIPAA, I am what is known as a “business associate”; as a provider, you are considered a “covered entity”. Business associates are third parties (non-employees) that provide services to covered entities. Covered entities are legally responsible for ensuring that any contractor they hire who will interact with protected health information (PHI) is compliant with HIPAA. Should we decide to work together, we will sign a Business Associate Agreement in observance of HIPAA.

Because I am HIPAA-certified and administrative support falls under the umbrella of TPO (Treatment, Payment, Operations), you do not need to obtain ROIs from your clients in order to allow me to access your EHR or other data relating to your clients’ identities or records. Execution of the Business Associate Agreement makes me legally responsible for safeguarding the PHI I receive or have access to in the course of our work together.

Software, apps & programs

A list of the applications, programs, and software I’m familiar with can be found here. If I don’t already know how to use everything you’re using for your business workflow, I will learn provided you provide me with access.

Scope

As a paralegal, I cannot and do not provide legal advice. I can only provide self-help services at your specific direction. If you need assistance with a legal matter, you must contact an attorney.

Website design

Although I’m happy to make tweaks to your website’s copy and formatting in the course of routine administrative work, due to the significant time investment involved I do not offer website design or redesign as part of my virtual assisting services. If you need a website to be created or redone for you, please reach out to me through ihateuglywebsites.com to discuss your project and its cost.
